Mufflers and Exhausts

There’s more to your vehicle’s muffler than just keeping it quiet. It’s one part of the entire exhaust system. The complex structure of the exhaust involves managing the fuel and air mixture and the resulting fumes as well as noise.

The exhaust system’s work begins at the point where the manifold and the engine cylinders meet. The oxygen sensor is then charged with analyzing the air and fuel mixture, and if it passes, the mixture continues to the catalytic converter. The harmful emissions are caught by the converter, so they’re not released into the muffler. From the muffler, whose job it is to muffle the noise, emissions are sent out through the exhaust pipe.

Two signs that it may be time to have your car’s exhaust system serviced are fuel smell and a loss of power. If you have questions about your vehicle’s performance, don’t hesitate to bring it by our service center here at Roling Ford in Shell Rock, IA. Our knowledgeable technicians can assist you.
