Bad guys in rural areas will have a bit more to worry about when evading police when the 2018 Ford F-150 Police Responder goes into action this fall. It's the first pursuit-rated pickup truck, based on the F-150 FX4 Off-Road model.
This gives law enforcement an extra leg-up when responding to situations in less accessible areas, like over pothole-ridden dirt roads, muddy ruts, and slippery grass. Not only is it capable in off-road conditions, but the F-150 Police Responder has the largest passenger volume, and most payload and towing of any pursuit-rated police vehicle.
With a top speed of only 100 mph, the truck isn't designed for high-speed chases. Rather, Ford believes it will be best used by border patrols, game wardens, and of course small-town sheriffs in need of a more rugged cruiser.
The pursuit-rated F-150 is only slightly modified from the civilian version we will be carrying at Roling Ford (ours will not contain "anti-stab plates" for example), which makes police use a powerful test of the truck's capability. We hope you'll come in for a test drive, and see why law enforcement trusts Ford vehicles.
