Given the many chemical processes that happen in your vehicle while it's running in Shell Rock, I, you're bound to notice a few odors from time to time. When those odors become consistent, though, and their smell takes a turn for the worst, it usually indicates some type of problem. In some cases, your vehicle's exhaust system can be responsible for the foul odors that you smell. Keep reading to learn why this occurs.

If you have a new vehicle from Roling Ford or have recently replaced your exhaust system, then the unusual smell you notice could be caused by materials burning off of the inside of the exhaust system. Since temperatures can sometimes top 500 degrees in your vehicle's exhaust, it doesn't take long for any "new exhaust smell" to dissipate.

A more common cause of foul odors in an exhaust system is a failing catalytic converter. In addition to releasing carbon dioxide and water, your vehicle releases sulfur dioxide, which is an odorless gas. If your catalytic converter has failed, though, hydrogen sulfide will be released instead. This gas, unlike sulfur dioxide, has a strong odor that you're sure to notice.
